COMMENTARY

Unchecked Open Submissions Checked Indexed Unchecked Peer Reviewed

Peer Review Process

All submitted articles will be peer-reviewed as quickly as possible. The integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal is ensured (look at the Ensuring a Blind Peer Review policy).

Publication Frequency

JOP is published bimonthly in: January, March, May, July, September and November.

Open Access Policy

READERS: This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

AUTHORS: The submission of manuscript to this journal is free.

Source Data and Statistical Reports

Authors who publish in JOP can make their source data, reports of statistical analysis, as well as any other materials that they judge important, freely available to the scientific community. This is entirely in line with the spirit of JOP: scientific information is a patrimony belonging to the community and, as such, it must be freely accessible; data are a fundamental component of scientific information and they must be freely accessible as well.

The aim of this initiative is to improve the knowledge provided to the scientific community by the publication of the research results: as a matter of fact, other authors have the possibility of testing new hypotheses on the data published in JOP, beyond those taken into account in the original paper.

It is responsibility of JOP to safeguard the intellectual property of the authors who wish to publish their data: the authors retain the rights for conventional publication as well as for all additional materials published in JOP. Therefore, different authors who publish results obtained by a new elaboration of the same data must clearly identify the origin and property of the data; the citation details of the original article must be reported as well. Copyright conditions about research data publication are available in the Copyright Notice page.

A second important aspect of publishing source data and statistical reports, together with the conventional publication, is an undoubted enhancement in the quality of publication practices that can be achieved by reducing the possibility of misconduct related to data analysis. In order to limit this misconduct, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) in the "Statistics" section of the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, suggests that the possibility of verifying the original data should warrant the reliability of the results reported in the scientific publications. Therefore, the publication of source data and statistical reports represents the direct application of such a recommendation.

A first response to this initiative and a contribution on this topic are available on-line in JOP.
